ALGIERS – The Minister of Culture and Arts, Malika Bendouda has given an instruction for the reopening of theaters, cultural centers and spaces belonging to cultural establishments under her supervision, closed for more than 10 months due to the spread of covid-19, a ministry statement said.

The decision to reopen these spaces (theaters, cultural centers and cultural establishments ) comes following “the meeting held recently between Ms. Bendouda and the executives of the ministry (…) and in response to the incessant need expressed by the intellectuals and artists in order to revitalize cultural and artistic activities “, noted the source.

The minister insisted, in her instruction, on “the imperative to respect the health protocol” in order to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

The health situation, having impacted several cultural programs, led to the cancellation of a number of cultural events, the majority of which had been postponed and then held virtually.

The Ministry of Culture had canceled, on March 11, all cultural activities and events in all of its structures across the national territory, where measures have been taken by the public authorities within the framework of partial and total lockdown in order to ward off the pandemic.
