Ukraine Offers Business Opportunities For Algeria

October 15, 2020

Ukraine aims to open Algeria’s potential to Ukrainian business opportunities, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuliba said during a phone conversation with Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum.

“Within the framework of a renewed vision to develop Ukraine’s relations with the African continent, we set ourselves the goal of opening Algeria’s potential to Ukrainian businessmen,” the Ukrainian Foreign Minister said, according to the news website “Ukraine in Arabic”.

Dmytro Kuliba asserted that it is unacceptable not to have bilateral contacts at high political levels with important countries in the region, especially Algeria, which became Ukraine’s second-largest trading partner in Africa in 2019.

The two sides agreed to hold a second round of political consultations between the two foreign ministries next month, during which a wide range of bilateral issues will be discussed, ranging from support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the international arena to developing cooperation in industry, education and tourism.

“Within the framework of political consultations, Ukraine and Algeria are planning to sign an agreement on establishing a joint governmental committee for bilateral cooperation as an effective tool for promoting trade and investment, and holding a business forum with major Ukrainian and Algerian companies”, Dmytro Kuliba explained.

Dmytro Kuliba invited the Foreign Minister, Sabri Boukadoum, to pay an official visit to Ukraine at his convenience.

For reference, in 2019, the total volume of trade in goods and services between Ukraine and Algeria reached 614.4 million US dollars, achieving a record high. According to last year’s results, Algeria has become Ukraine’s second-largest trading partner in Africa, after Egypt.

The consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries have not taken place since 1993, and the last visit at the level of foreign ministers was in 2002.

It should be noted that the Ambassador of Ukraine to Algeria, Dr Maxim Sobh, confirmed Ukraine’s intention to expand partnership areas with Algeria.
