Transport Minister Lazhar Hani tackled, today, Tuesday, Dec 29, 2020, in a press conference, a range of topics related to his sector, including opening borders, resuming inter-provinces transport, and other various issues.

According to the head of this sector, this latter has suffered significant losses since the outbreak of the pandemic, in terms of air, sea and land transport.

As for the losses suffered by the sector following the lockdown imposed by covid-19, the minister indicated that the government is working on assessing the losses suffered by Air Algérie, the national passenger maritime transport company (entmv) and Algiers metro, acknowledging that these losses are “considerable”.

As an example, the minister mentioned the losses suffered by the carriers, which are estimated at 40 billion dinars, while maritime transport suffered losses estimated at 9 billion dinars.

Regarding the opening of borders and resumption of flights, the minister of transport said that this decision falls under the prerogatives of the country’s higher authorities.

As for the resumption of inter-provinces land transport, the minister indicated that this decision is dependent on the health situation hitherto under control compared to other countries of the region.

“When we fully control the coronavirus pandemic, we will open transport between the provinces”, declared the first head of the transport sector in Algeria.
