ANNABA- The Steel Complex of El-Hadjar in Annaba is on the way to export 15,000 tons of coils from the Port of Annaba to Italy as part of its export program for the year 2021, President of the Board of Directors of the complex, Djamila Labiod, said Sunday.

In a statement to the APS Mrs. Labiod indicated that the Sider El Hadjar complex, which deploys huge efforts to preserve its position in the market and penetrate international markets with competitive products, has drawn up, for the year 2021, an export plan of 220,000 tons of flat and long ferrous products for an amount of 100 million dollars, which will represent 20% of the complex’s turnover.

In this vein, she recalled that the complex exported, in 2019, for 51 million dollars (33 billion DA) or 17% of its turnover, a total volume of ferrous products estimated at 153,000 tons, while, in 2020, the exported volume was set at 90,000 tons for a value of $ 26 million.

“The decline in the production volume of the Sider El Hadjar complex in 2020 is due to the Coronavirus pandemic repercussions which has affected the activities of the complex which covers the needs for ferrous products on the national market and exports to several countries in Europe, Africa and Asia including Italy, France, Spain, Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, India and Pakistan,” she pointed out.

The management of Sider El Hadjar aims to initiate the second phase of the investment plan for which a financial envelope of 45 billion DA has been allocated, indicated Ms. Labiod, noting that this phase will include steelworks, hot rolling mills and cold and other industrial installations to allow the diversification of the products of the complex “as soon as possible”.

The production capacity of the Sider El Hadjar complex which employs 6,000 workers currently stands at 750,000 tonnes and is expected to exceed one (1) million tonnes after the execution of the second phase of the investment plan, the same official recalled.
