President Tebboune affirms state determination to take care of all healthcare staff concerns

ALGIERS- The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, affirmed, Sunday in Algiers, the state’s determination to take care of all the concerns of the healthcare staff “before the end of the current year”.

In his speech at the closing of the proceedings of the National Forum on the renewal of the health system, in the presence of the Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Salah Goudjil, the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Aïmane Benabderrahmane, the President of the Constitutional Court, Omar Belhadj, and the Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army, Lieutenant-General Said Chengriha, the Minister of Health, Abderrahmane Benbouzid, members of the government, advisors to the President of the Republic as well as officials of national bodies, President Tebboune said: “We are committed to implementing the recommendations of this forum as much as possible and according to the country’s financial capabilities, and taking care of all the concerns of the health sector staff, such as financial issues, basic laws and a fundamental review of the career path before the end of the current year.”

He added that the circumstances the country went through “forced” the postponement of the handling of the concerns of the sector’s employees during the past two years due to “priorities,” stressing that “it is time to take care of the legitimate demands of those belonging to the sector” and grant them “what they deserve in return for what they gave to the country.”

When addressing the issue of the Algerian health system, the President of the Republic affirmed that it is “one of the best systems in Africa, based on the principle of free of charge treatment and health coverage,” recalling the state of the health system in the wake of independence and the great development it witnessed thanks to “the mobilization of doctors and their contribution to the eradication of many deadly diseases.” In addition to adopting a vaccination system, “the results of which have now appeared and made Algeria the first in Africa in this field.

The President of the Republic stressed the need for concerted efforts and “the participation of all” in improving the health system and the quality of treatment, in order to “transition to another stage closer to the level of health systems in Western Europe,” adding: “We are not the best in the world, but we are also not the worst, because we have strengths to be maintained and weaknesses to be fixed.

In this regard, he criticized the parties that unfairly challenge the level of Algerian doctors and the health system and stressed that Algeria has “the best doctors in the world,”.

Speaking about the health conditions in the country, the President of the Republic said, “We are able to combat the Covid-19 epidemic with our capabilities,” criticizing “some Algerians theorists who predict the worst,” calling for a “collectively confronting them because our country is stronger than that.”

In the same context, the President of the Republic affirmed “the state’s determination to provide all means to overcome the epidemic,” calling on “everyone to mobilize for the success of the vaccination process,” which he considered “the only way out to overcome the epidemic.”

On the same occasion, the President of the Republic pointed out that the organization of this forum came in a “difficult” circumstance as a result of the Corona epidemic, and expressed “appreciation, respect and gratitude to the sector’s professionals, in return for their strenuous efforts,” and also paid tribute to the lives of healthcare staff who were victims of the epidemic.

It’s worth noting that the proceedings of the second and last day of the forum began with a minute of silence in honor of the souls of the martyrs of duty belonging to the health sector.
