ALGIERS- The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mohamed Abdelhafid Henni, on Tuesday in Algiers, presided over the signing ceremony of a framework agreement between the National Interprofessional Council of the Poultry Sector (CNIFA) and the National Feed Office (ONAB) with a view to ensuring the availability of white meat at reasonable prices, organising the poultry sector and monitoring the production circuit.
The agreement provides for the creation of bilateral contracts under which the regional branches of the ONAB supply farmers with day-old chicks, the price of which has been capped at 80 DA per unit, excluding taxes, and in return, the farmers undertake to deliver fattened hens to these branches of the ONAB, located in the east, centre and west of the country.
In order to implement this agreement, the ONAB undertakes to meet all the appropriate conditions and the CNIFA to raise awareness among breeders to join and present the list of breeders who are members of the Office.
The agreement was signed by the Chairman of the CNIFA, Moumen Kali, and the Director of the ONAB, Hassan Benzaza, at the headquarters of the industrial group Agro-logistique (Agrolog).
Mr. Henni stressed that this agreement will allow the prices of live hens to be fixed at 240 kg before tax, hence, the final price will be offered to citizens at 320 DA or 330 DA.
The minister also mentioned the programme devoted to supplying the national market with white meat during the Holy Month of Ramadan, during which a quantity of 47,000 tonnes of white meat will be ensured, in addition to 430 million eggs per month to cover the needs of citizens.
In addition, the Minister affirmed the activating of the supply network, through the re-launch of local markets, where 150 sales points dedicated to white and red meats will be opened.
He added that the Office will manage the sales of 10,000 tonnes of white meat, including 2,000 tonnes of frozen meat and 8,000 tonnes of fresh meat, in addition to the sales of 37,000 tonnes of white meat provided by the private sector.
